Other good features that come standard with the XLT trim tester include an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, and a rather strange-looking display housed in a housing that could easily accommodate a larger screen.

Engine and Performance

Although the Maverick has the option of gas-only or hybrid power, the former is only capable of front-wheel drive and does not fit the Tremor’s image. (For the record, a Ford representative stated last year that if there was a need for it, the Maverick Hybrid may be available with all-wheel drive.) Rather, this truck’s engine is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 250 horsepower and, more significantly, 277 lb-ft of torque. Following an approximately 60-kilometer commute within the city, the total consumption was 12.5 L/100 km. However, over the course of about 250 km, that statistic dropped to 10.5 L/100 km after a decent highway run and a quick trail test in the middle. Regular-grade gas powers it.

Adding the Maverick to the XLT trim tested here is the least expensive way to give it the Tremor treatment. The list price, which includes a non-negotiable freight fee of $2,095 and is at least $39,695 before tax, seems a little out of line given that it does not even feature heated front seats, which would cost a further $2,200 to install. When the Tremor package is included, the Maverick Lariat costs at least $43,145 before taxes. However, neither of its main rivals provide packages like this, therefore this vehicle holds a special place in the market.

Too often, half-ton fans utilize the incentives offered by automakers as a justification to purchase larger vehicles than they likely need, criticizing the price of smaller versions like the Maverick.
