Although the Odyssey has greater cargo room (929 L) behind the third row than the Chrysler Pacifica, it is still less than the Toyota Sienna (949 L), and the Kia Carnival (1,138 L) has more freight space overall. The headroom and first- and second-row legroom of all competitors are comparable, however the Honda and Toyota offer more third-row legroom than the Chrysler and Kia.
The Odyssey has stacked twin door pockets and great small-item storage. This Honda still employs a half-console that leaves the front floor exposed, whereas all of its competitors have full-length front center consoles, which the Sienna recently acquired. Engine and Performance
All Odyssey Touring grades are powered by a 3.5L V6 engine that generates 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic gearbox is connected to it. When compared to its non-hybrid competitors, the Carnival’s somewhat lesser horsepower (it peaks at 290 hp) and torque won’t be noticeable. There is decent acceleration from a stop as well as for highway driving, and the transmission shifts smoothly. The Odyssey Touring is officially rated by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) at 12.2 L/100 km in the city, 8.5 on the highway, and 10.6 in combined driving. I came in under that at 8.7 L/100 km, as I spent much of my week with it on the highway. The engine includes cylinder deactivation, which automatically shuts off some of the cylinders when full power isn’t needed, and it runs on 87-octane regular gasoline.
That 10.6 L/100 km combined figure matches that of the Carnival and the Pacifica FWD. The Pacifica AWD is rated at 12.0 L/100 km. The Odyssey Touring is awarded a top five-star crash-test rating by the US accreditation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Both were also given to the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica.
